At a luncheon meeting of the Dayton Bar Association honoring that Association's Past Presidents, Chief Judge Walter H. Rice of the United States District Court in Dayton was the luncheon speaker. With regard to Charlie Faruki, who was president of the DBA in 1995-96, Judge Rice stated:

"In terms of accomplishments, even at his comparatively young age, Charlie Faruki is the Dean of the commercial litigation Bar. His tenure as Bar President was marked by innovation and attention to detail that kept our Bar Association on its upward path. Charlie has been in the forefront of efforts to diversify our profession and to make our Bar Association responsive to the needs of its minority members."

The members of the firm have been heavily involved in trials this year including not only jury trials, but also arbitrations and bench trials. The cases that have gone to trial so far this year have ranged from injunction cases, to breach of contract, licensing agreement, and real estate development cases.

On June 18, Charlie Faruki participated as a member of the faculty in a CLE program in Columbus for young litigators titled "Direct and Cross Examination Skills Training Workshop," at the Ohio CLE Institute.

FG&I continues its long-standing commitment to community involvement and regional leadership. Jeff Cox, who joined the firm in 1991, recently graduated from the Leadership Dayton program. As a member of the Leadership Dayton Class of 1998, Jeff (who is also a member of the City Council of Oakwood, Ohio) joined 38 other class members (including only three other attorneys) from academia, finance, large and small business, government, military operations, professions, social service agencies and the volunteer sector in a rigorous, 10-month long program introducing, educating and encouraging individuals to accept leadership positions in Dayton and the Miami Valley region. The 1997-98 Leadership Dayton program year consisted of an initial two-day retreat and 10 full-day seminars addressing community topics with prominent representatives of business, education, government and cultural and community affairs. Jeff called the program one of the most beneficial opportunities available to interact with other emerging leaders and to share thoughts and new ideas about leading Dayton into the new millennium. Leadership Dayton is in its 23rd year; its graduates include FG&I partners Jeff Ireland, Ann Wightman and Mary Wiseman. The firm is a sponsor of Leadership Dayton, and the firm's partners are active in leadership positions in the region's civic and cultural organizations and affairs.
