In November Charlie Faruki co-taught, with a patent attorney, a CLE program sponsored by the Dayton Bar Association, titled "Intellectual Property for General and Corporate Practitioners." The topics of the program included trademarks and domain names; trade secrets; patents; copyrights; and intellectual property from the litigator's viewpoint. Charlie included in his portion of the seminar, a discussion and demonstration of the use of demonstrative evidence in preparing and trying such cases.

Charlie subsequently taught a CLE program (for the Dayton Bar Association's Federal Practice Committee) on the subject of updates in certain topics on Federal Court Practice: recent Sixth Circuit summary judgment rulings, and developments in expert testimony and in settlement/ADR.

FG&I's newest associates April Hayne (University of Cincinnati College of Law), Chad Kohler (Case Western Reserve University Law School), and Suzanne Scheiner-Albl (University of Cincinnati College of Law) were sworn into the Ohio Bar on November 13, 2001.

The firm wrapped up a successful fall recruiting campaign and five new associates will join FG&I in August, 2002
, including Eli Kiefaber (Marquette University Law School), Brian Wright (Case Western Reserve University Law School), Kara Denny (University of Cincinnati College of Law), Mary LeBoeuf (University of Dayton School of Law) and Charlie Bruch (University of Cincinnati College of Law). Also committing to FG&I are two law students who will join the firm in May, 2002, as summer clerks. They include: Mark Mahoney (University of Dayton), and Tom Gibney (Washington University School of Law).

Joining the firm in January, 2002, will be December, 2001 University of Cincinnati law graduate Jennifer Porter. Jennifer clerked with FG&I during the summers of 2000 and 2001.

FG&I is committed to helping restore and preserve the "Old Courthouse" in Dayton, pledging $35,000 towards the renovation campaign. The Old Courthouse opened in 1849 and sits prominently on Courthouse Square in the center of downtown Dayton. Considered one of the finest Greek Revival-style buildings in America, the Old Courthouse was Montgomery County's working courthouse until the early 1960s. FG&I partners Charlie Faruki and Jeff Cox both serve on the Old Courthouse capital campaign leadership committee. "We are proud to assist in the effort to preserve this historic landmark adjacent to our offices on Courthouse Square," said Cox. Upon conclusion of the renovation effort, the Old Courthouse will be used for a wide variety of special and ceremonial events, including bar swearing and naturalization ceremonies. In recognition of its contribution, FG&I will be recognized as sponsors of certain renovations in the Old Courthouse, which FG&I's offices overlook.
