  • Chief Judge Walter Rice of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio ruled favorably in March on a motion to compel arbitration and to dismiss plaintiff's Complaint filed by Charlie Faruki, Jeff Cox and Melinda Burton
  • Charlie Faruki and Jeff Ireland will co-chair the Annual Antitrust Institute in Columbus
  • On March 14, 2002, the firm was proud to continue its tradition of being the lead sponsor for the YWCA of Dayton's Annual Circle of Influence Luncheon
  • Charlie Faruki is co-chairing a fundraiser for Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton
  • In an antitrust and Michigan franchise act suit defended successfully by Jeff Ireland, Mary Wiseman and Lisa Parilo, Watkins & Son Pet Supplies vs. The Iams Company

May

July

  • In June Charlie Faruki participated in the New Lawyer Training CLE program
  • Jeff Cox has been chosen as President of the Parish/Pastoral Council to lead the Church of the Holy Angels in Dayton for 2002-2003. 
  • In May 2002, Tom Kraemer traveled to Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of a Dayton Sister City delegation.
  • As reported in the June 2002 newsletter update, Mary Wiseman has been selected to serve on the Board of Trustees for The Entrepreneur's Center in Dayton
  • FG&I associate Caroline Gentry is commencing her second year as Chair of The Dayton Bar Association's Federal Practice Committee.

August

  • FG&I commences its fall recruiting season at the end of this month with trips planned to eleven law schools around the country
  • FG&I succeeded in obtaining reversal in the Second District Court of Appeals
  • Brad Anderson joins FG&I this month as an associate following his stint as a trial attorney in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps.
  • Returning to FG&I this month is Martin Foos
  • Within the last month the Court of Appeals for the Second Appellate District (Montgomery County, Ohio), affirmed a trial court award of summary judgment to FG&I's client The Dayton Power and Light Company
  • The Washington Monthly magazine has ranked Dayton among the top mid-sized cities considered a destination for the "creative class."
  • FG&I 2002 summer associate Mark Mahoney, who will earn his law degree in 2003 from the University of Dayton School of Law has accepted the firm's offer to become an associate of the firm in August, 2003

September

  • Faruki Ireland & Cox P.L.L. is pleased to introduce its new firm name, which debuted August 21, 2002.
  • Within the last month the Court of Appeals for the Second Appellate District (Montgomery County, Ohio), affirmed a trial court award of summary judgment to FG&I's client The Dayton Power and Light Company
  • FI&C associate Ron Raether has been selected as a member of the Management Committee and as Chair of the Committee on Educational Programming for Dayton's technology business incubator, the "i-Zone." 
  • FI&C has been representing DPL Inc. (the parent company of The Dayton Power and Light Company) and the other DPL defendants in two shareholder suits, containing class action and derivative claims, filed in Dayton and Cincinnati recently.

October

  • Jeff Cox gave an October 4 lunch presentation to the Corporate Counsel Committee of the Dayton Bar Association
  • Last month Charlie Faruki was again selected by other lawyers to be included in The Best Lawyers in America
  • Tom Kraemer is once again teaching as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Dayton School of Law this fall. 
  • Charlie Faruki spoke at the Dayton Bar Association's October 4 continuing legal education seminar focusing on the subject of professionalism
  • On Monday, September 30, FI&C Associate Andy Gottman successfully argued State v. Ruby, a criminal appeal before Ohio's Second District Court of Appeals that Andy accepted on a pro bono basis
  • Once again, FI&C is participating in the Dayton Bar Association-Thurgood Marshall Law Society Barbara Jordan Roundtable's Summer Minority Clerkship Program

November

  • On November 1 the CLE Institute of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Antitrust Section of the Ohio State Bar Association co-sponsored their 36th Annual Antitrust Institute.
  • FI&C is pleased to welcome Adam Sherman
  • Along with Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Barbara Gorman, FI&C associates Lisa Parilo and John Fischer are working as volunteer advisors to the Mock Trial Team at Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School in Dayton
  • Earlier this year, Tom Kraemer was a member of Dayton's Sister City delegation that traveled to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

December

  • FI&C is completing a successful fall law school recruiting season
  • Charlie Faruki reprised this month two, updated CLE presentations he gave in 2001 for the Dayton Bar Association on intellectual property and internet issues.
  • On December 18, 2002 Mary Wiseman presented a CLE program covering the ins and outs of electronic discovery as part of the Dayton Bar Association's annual year-end "CLE Roundup"
  • FI&C attorneys were once again acknowledged this year for the contribution of their time and energies to the efforts of the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project
