DECEMBER NEWSLETTER

FI&C is completing a successful fall law school recruiting season.  Over a 12-week period, the firm visited 11 law schools and solicited resumes from several others, interviewing almost 150 second and third-year law students for summer clerk and associate positions commencing in 2003.  Joining the firm in May 2003 are three summer clerks (identified along with their law school followed by their undergraduate institutions):  John Patelli (Notre Dame Law School; Franciscan University of Steubenville); Lynn Preston (University of Dayton School of Law; University of Virginia); and Erin Stefanec (University of Dayton School of Law; Miami University).  In August, 2003, seven new associates will join FI&C.  They are:  Angela Sinkovits (University of Virginia Law School; University of Central Florida); Mark Mahoney (University of Dayton School of Law; Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences): Eric Voigt (Indiana University Law School; University of North Carolina); Nick Smith (The Ohio State University College of Law; Ohio University); Katie Wahl (Notre Dame Law School; DePauw University); Andy Reitz (Indiana University Law School; Wabash University); and Andrew LeMar (Indiana University Law School; Indiana University).  FI&C also anticipates hiring 3 to 5 lateral attorneys during the first quarter of 2003; more information will be made available about those individuals in upcoming newsletters.  Our clients' belief in our firm's ability to handle their litigation needs drives our recruiting initiatives.

Charlie Faruki reprised this month two, updated CLE presentations he gave in 2001 for the Dayton Bar Association on intellectual property and internet issues.  On December 5, Charlie, along with Dayton attorney Matt Jenkins, gave a presentation on "Intellectual Property for the General and Corporate Practitioner," which focused on patents, trade secrets, trademarks and domain names, copyrights, and intellectual property litigation developments.  On December 12, Charlie and Matt again teamed up, this time joined by Michael Jacobs (General Counsel to LexisNexis (an FI&C client) to present a program addressing "Legal Issues Involving the Internet."  The program covered such topics as trademark and domain name issues relating to the Internet, litigating issues relating to the Internet, and agreement issues relating to the Internet.  Charlie also taught in Columbus a civil litigation component of the New Lawyer Training program of the Ohio State Bar Association.

On December 18, 2002 Mary Wiseman presented a CLE program covering the ins and outs of electronic discovery as part of the Dayton Bar Association's annual year-end "CLE Roundup".  FI&C clients regularly encounter the hurdles of e-discovery, and FI&C works closely with its clients to help them prepare for such discovery, and to use e-discovery methods to access opponents' electronically-stored information.

FI&C attorneys were once again acknowledged this year for the contribution of their time and energies to the efforts of the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project, which provides pro bono legal services to meet the needs of the Dayton community.  Singled out this year for their efforts are FI&C attorneys, including Charlie Faruki, Dan Binegar, John Fischer, Dan Gentry, Caroline Gentry, Diane Goderre, Chad Kohler, Tom Kraemer, Karl Neudorfer, Lisa Parilo, Ron Raether, Suzanne Scheiner-Albl and Mary Wiseman.
