NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER
On November 1 the CLE Institute of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Antitrust Section of the Ohio State Bar Association co-sponsored their 36th Annual Antitrust Institute. The topic of this year's Institute was "The Intersection of Antitrust and Intellectual Property". Charlie Faruki and Jeff Ireland were Co-Chairs for the Institute. Both Jeff and Charlie spoke at the program as well. Charlie's subject was, "Expanding the Empire: Monopolization Claims Based Upon Intellectual Property Rights"; he traced caselaw developments, covered the latest caselaw, and concluded with practical advice and tips for counsel. Jeff Ireland spoke on the subject of "Litigating Intellectual Property/Antitrust Issues," including topics of CAFC jurisdiction, discovery, attorney-client privilege and remedies including damages.
FI&C is pleased to welcome Adam Sherman, who has joined the firm this month as an associate. A native of Dayton, Adam returns to Dayton after practicing as a litigation associate in the New York City office of Minneapolis-based Dorsey & Whitney LLP. A member of the New York Bar, Adam is a 1997 honors graduate of the University of Michigan, and a 2001 graduate of New York University School of Law.
Along with Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Barbara Gorman, FI&C associates Lisa Parilo and John Fischer are working as volunteer advisors to the Mock Trial Team at Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School in Dayton. John is a 1986 Chaminade-Julienne graduate. Preparing for a competition in the Spring of 2003, the local mock trial program pits teams from dozens of local high schools against one another with the winner advancing to state and regional competitions. Lisa and John will be offering presentation pointers, assisting with evidentiary questions, and readying the students for the mock trial experience.
Earlier this year, Tom Kraemer was a member of Dayton's Sister City delegation that traveled to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dayton and Sarajevo became sister cities in 1999 in recognition of Dayton's role as host in 1995 of the negotiations that led to the "Dayton Accords," which formally marked the cessation of the war in and around Sarajevo. Tom's trip to Sarajevo included meetings with local attorneys there, including the President of the Bar of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. An article chronicling Tom's trip appeared recently in the September, 2002 edition of the Dayton Bar Association's monthly magazine, Dayton Bar Briefs.
