AUGUST NEWSLETTER

The Dayton Business Journal conducted a survey of Dayton-area CEO's and other community leaders to identify the most influential people in the region.  Charlie Faruki was selected for the list of 30 of the most powerful people in the Greater Dayton area.  The just-published list, titled "Power:  Dayton's Most Influential People," contains 30 people, of whom only three are in the law.  Of those three, only Charlie is an attorney in private practice; the other two are Chief Judge Walter Rice in U.S. District Court in Dayton, and Mat Heck, Montgomery County Prosecutor.

FI&C welcomes nine new associates this month, seven of whom are 2003 law school graduates.  The July newsletter profiled two experienced attorneys, Keith O’Korn and John Stinneford, who begin their association with the firm on August 18.  Beginning their legal careers at FI&C are:  Angela Sinkovits (University of Virginia Law School; University of Central Florida); Mark Mahoney (University of Dayton School of Law; Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences): Eric Voigt (Indiana University Law School; University of North Carolina); Nick Smith (The Ohio State University College of Law; Ohio University); Katie Wahl (Notre Dame Law School; DePauw University); Andy Reitz (Indiana University Law School; Wabash University); and Andrew LeMar (Indiana University Law School; Indiana University).

Mary Wiseman was a presenter this summer at a Dayton Bar Association CLE seminar on federal practice entitled "Federal Court for Dummies."  Mary served on a panel that discussed when, how and why to file suit in federal as opposed to state court.

Dan Binegar gave a presentation on August 8, 2003 to twenty-four paralegals practicing in Dayton and Cincinnati.  The paralegals were from a variety of backgrounds and currently practice at law firms or corporations.  The seminar concentrated on advanced legal drafting for Ohio paralegals.  Dan spoke on the skills and preparation necessary to research effectively legal topics and to draft research and legal memoranda, pleadings, discovery requests, and appellate briefs.  He also explained the role of ethics in legal drafting and the paralegal's role in trials.
