JANUARY NEWSLETTER
On December 19, 2003, the Dayton Business Journal published its 2004 Book of Lists, described as the comprehensive directory of leading companies and organizations in the Dayton area. In the 2004 Book of Lists, Faruki Ireland & Cox has moved from fourth to third in Dayton-Area Law Firms, ranked by number of full-time lawyers locally. In addition to being the third-largest firm in this annual ranking, our firm remains the largest litigation practice.
Charlie Faruki, Jeff Ireland, and Jeff Cox were all recognized as "Ohio SuperLawyers 2004" in a joint publication of Law & Politics Magazine and Cincinnati Magazine. Only 5% of Ohio's licensed attorneys were recognized; the "SuperLawyers" were selected by a selection committee based upon ballots mailed to Ohio attorneys. Charlie Faruki was recognized in the survey as one of Ohio's "Top Ten" Lawyers. More information about the Ohio SuperLawyer 2004 project can be found on-line at www.superlawyers.com.
Faruki Ireland & Cox P.L.L., along with a few other Dayton law firms, hosted a January 13, 2004 reception at the Dayton Racquet Club for Chief Justice Tom Moyer of the Ohio Supreme Court. Ohio's Chief Justice since 1987, Chief Justice Moyer seeks re-election to the position in November, 2004.
FI&C was once again recognized by the Dayton Bar Association and the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project for the firm's continuing commitment to pro bono legal representation. The December 12 recognition, made at the DBA's annual holiday luncheon at Sinclair Community College, recognized the financial commitment of FI&C and many of its individual lawyers to the "Access to Justice" campaign, as well as the many countless hours of time donated by FI&C attorneys working on pro bonomatters for the VLP. Charlie Faruki was recognized for his leadership role in the Access to Justice fundraising campaign.
FI&C associate Katherine Early wrote an article entitled "Electronic Filing: Highlights and Tips" for the February 2004 edition of the Dayton Bar Association's monthly publication, Bar Briefs. On September 1, 2003, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio went live with both CM (Case Management, the electronic docketing system) and ECF (the Electronic [Case] Filing system). Katherine's article draws on the Court's manuals and rules regarding electronic filing to compile a compact and handy set of highlights and tips that the Bar will find useful.
