Charlie Faruki wrote a chapter for the book of materials that the Ohio Bar Association distributes to new lawyers upon admissions to the bar. Charlie's contribution is a summary of the issues to be addressed by the attorney at the commencement of representation, and the approach to the initial interview of the client.
Julie Zink has been asked to resume her role as an adjunct professor at the University of Dayton School of Law (UDSL) this fall. Julie will be teaching Legal Profession III, the law school's third installment of research and writing in which the second year law students prepare an appellate brief and present oral argument. The top tier of oralists will then compete in the annual Walter H. Rice Moot Court Competition. Prior to her graduation from UDSL in 1999, Julie was champion of the Walter H. Rice Moot Court Competition, and took part on UDSL's moot court team as both a competitor and a coach.
Andrew LeMar was selected to be the Vice Chair of the Dayton Bar Association's Congeniality Within the Profession Committee. Andrew, who served as a member of the committee this past year, was selected by the President of the Bar Association to serve as Vice Chair for 2005-2006. The committee is responsible for developing and organizing events that bring together the Bar Association's members in non-legal settings.
FI&C Associate, Chad Burton, was recently appointed as Vice Chair of the New Lawyers Committee for the Dayton Bar Association. Several FI&C associates are members of the New Lawyers Committee. This committee provides opportunities for young lawyers to meet with experienced lawyers and judges, as well as other networking opportunities with professionals in the Dayton community.
Jacqueline Brown will be Vice Chair of the Dayton Bar Association's Diversity Issues and Federal Practice committees for the new DBA session. The Diversity Issues committee promotes gender and racial diversity in the legal profession. The Federal Practice committee keeps attorneys who practice in federal courts abreast of current trends and issues affecting federal practice.
