At a luncheon attended by approximately 800 people, Jeff and Ellen Ireland received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Young Women's Christian Association ("YWCA"). Jeff and Ellen have been active supporters of the YWCA for many years, and are very honored to have received the YWCA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Charlie Faruki has been selected to be a Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation. This year's class of Fellows of the Foundation begins its meetings with a session and induction ceremony with Chief Justice Thomas Moyer of the Supreme Court of Ohio this month. The Ohio State Bar Foundation is a § 501(C)(3) public charity and a membership organization dedicated to the mission of promoting public understanding of the law and improvements in the justice system throughout Ohio.

Ron Raether was a presenter last month at a day-long seminar sponsored by the Institute for Paralegal Education titled "Document Gathering, Production and Management for Litigation Paralegals in Ohio." Ron's presentation relied upon his technology-related experience, focusing on electronic data discovery and data management, and multimedia trial presentation applications and techniques. Ron will be speaking on similar topics on March 22, 2005 at a CLE in Cincinnati titled "Overcoming Your Fears: Utilizing Technology in Litigation."

Numerous FI&C personnel have volunteered to participate in the Dayton Early College Academy ("DECA"), which involves tutoring high school students to help them to develop their writing skills. The following FI&C attorneys have volunteered to tutor: Chad Burton, Holt Hedrick, Andrew LeMar, Angela Sinkovits, Nick Smith, Ian Taronji, Katie Wahl and Julie Zink; FI&C paralegal Sharon Igli has also volunteered.

Eli Kiefaber tried a murder case in state court, as part of FI&C's Public Defender Externship Program, and succeeded in procuring a lesser offense verdict. The FI&C Public Defender Externship Program has been described in prior newsletters. Under the Program, selected FI&C attorneys work for the Montgomery County Public Defender's Office full time for about a month, while FI&C continues to pay their full salary. The Program is designed to give young, promising FI&C attorneys more "time on their feet" in the courtroom.

FI&C attorneys continue to be active in the community. Katie Wahl was re-elected to the Board of Trustees for the Tipp City Public Library. Ian Taronji, as a co-chair of the Dayton Bar Association's Diversity Committee, arranged for Carl Dominguez, Chair of the United States Equal Opportunity Commission, to speak at the Dayton Bar Association's Diversity Luncheon on May 20, 2005. Lynn Preston is coaching two of the University of Dayton School of Law Intellectual Property Moot Court Teams.
