Ron Raether, Marty Foos, and Brian Wright were selected as Ohio Rising Star Super Lawyers for 2006.
The Ohio Rising Stars list was published in the July 2006 issue of Cincinnati Magazine and in the Ohio Super Lawyers publication. Ron was also the subject of a feature-length article in the Ohio Super Lawyer magazine, which highlights Ron's expertise and experience with technology related matters. The Rising Stars list is a joint project of the publishers of Cincinnati Magazine and Law & Politics magazine and is limited to 2.5% of Ohio's licensed attorneys. The Rising Stars are chosen by a selection committee, whose decisions are based upon independent research by Law & Politics lawyers and a survey of Ohio Super Lawyers.
Ron Raether co-chaired the Sixteenth Annual Seminar held by the University of Dayton School of Law regarding Significant Developments in Computer and Cyberspace Law on June 9, 2006.
Jeff Cox, Tom Kraemer, Don Burton, and Erin Bair also participated in the program as presenters. Jeff, Tom, Don and Erin performed a demonstration of a Markman hearing, which presentation was entitled "Patent Litigation Strategies: The Markman Hearing -- Are You Prepared?" Ron also presented a program entitled "Privacy and Compliance -- A Coming Out Year" and chaired a panel discussion that included Leonard Gordon from the NYC enforcement office of the FTC entitled "Privacy Panel Discussion -- Where Are the Laws Today: Practical Considerations for Your Client and Your Company." An article by Don Burton titled "The Metes and Bounds of the of the Defendant Class Action in Patent Cases" was recently published
in the Spring 2006 issue of the John Marshall Law School Review of Intellectual Property Law. Don's article addresses whether it would be permissible for a plaintiff to file a patent action against a class of alleged infringers. An FI&C victory makes national news.
As reported in last month's newsletter, Ohio's Second District Court of Appeals recently ruled in favor of FI&C client Dayton Newspapers, Inc., and ordered the City of Troy to release public records pertaining to its undercover investigation of a sexually-oriented business. This victory was the subject of a June article in the News Media Update, a publication of the Reporters' Committee for the Freedom of the Press. The Reporters' Committee for the Freedom of the Press is a nonprofit organization that has been a national leader for thirty years on First Amendment, freedom of information, open government, and free speech issues.
Chad Burton has been appointed as the Chair of the Young Lawyers Committee for the Dayton Bar Association.
The Committee is comprised of lawyers in the Dayton area who are within their first eight years of practice. The Committee focuses on building a professional network in the legal community for its members. This year, the Committee will place a special emphasis on community service projects.
Chad Burton, along with his wife, Brooke, have joined the Dayton Ballet Associate Board.
The Board is comprised of young professionals in the Dayton area who support the arts. The Board runs all aspects of the Ballet Barre, which is an organization that provides networking opportunities for its members through several performances and social events each year.
