Judge Walter H. Rice of the United States District Court in Dayton recently adopted the recommendations of Magistrate Judge Sharon Ovington and granted a motion for summary judgment in favor of FI&C client The Estée Lauder Companies, Inc. on all claims raised by an Estée Lauder employee against the Company.
In this employment case, the employee raised numerous claims against Estée Lauder alleging (1) race discrimination, retaliation, and racially hostile work environment under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e, et seq., 42 U.S.C. § 1981, and various Ohio statutes, (2) breach of contract, and (3) adverse employment action in violation of public policy. Represented by our firm's Melinda Burton, Estée Lauder successfully defended against these multiple claims, demonstrating that the employee failed to prove a prima facie case of racial discrimination, retaliation, or hostile work environment, and that her claims for breach of contract and violation of public policy failed as a matter of law.
