May 2007

  • In a class action being tried by our firm, on April 27, 2007 a jury returned verdicts on the compensatory damage claims of the first thirty-one (31) Plaintiffs whose cases went to trial resulting from the September 21, 2003, explosion at Isotec in Miamisburg, Ohio.
  • FI&C Won Summary Judgment in a Case Pending in the Warren County Common Pleas Court.
  • FI&C Defeated a Motion to Close Court Proceedings in a Matter Pending Before the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court .
  • FI&C Forced the Government to Disclose Public Records.
  • Angela Sinkovits' article entitled "The Corporate Side of Lawyer-Client Privilege" was published in The Dayton Business Journal on April 20, 2007 .
  • Brian Wright was a presenter on the topic of Ethics: E-mail and Electronic Discovery at the Annual Domestic Relations Seminar sponsored by the Dayton Bar Association.
  • FI&C Associates Erin Rhinehart and Katie Miltner are the co-chairs of the Dayton Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division's first annual 5 for the Kids, 5k run/walk race to benefit CARE House, Dayton's advocacy center for abused and neglected children.
  • Andrew Reitz was selected as Volunteer of the Quarter by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, which award will be presented at the Board of Directors Meeting on May 23, 2007.
  • Jeff Sharkey was selected to lead the Centerville/Springboro Adventure Guides group.

April 2007

  • Judge Walter H. Rice of the United States District Court in Dayton recently adopted the recommendations of Magistrate Judge Sharon Ovington and granted a motion for summary judgment in favor of FI&C client The Estée Lauder Companies, Inc. on all claims raised by an Estée Lauder employee against the Company.
  • Jeff Ireland has been selected as a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers.
  • Jeff Sharkey, Brian Wright, Katie Wahl, and Andy Reitz have been selected by the Dayton Business Journal as "40 Under 40" award winners.
  • Erin Rhinehart was recently appointed as Chair of the Dayton Bar Association's Bar Briefs Editorial Board for the 2007-2008 term.Chad Burton has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for Unified Health Solutions ("UHS"), a local not-for-profit organization, whose vision is to "enhance the quality of life and health in the Greater Dayton area by joining together and coordinating with heath and human service providers to promote the prevention of health problems."

March 2007

  • On behalf of a client that operates an internet website, FI&C succeeded in a preliminary injunction hearing in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio that raised trademark and breach of contract issues.
  • FI&C obtained a complete victory in a commercial arbitration proceeding handled by Tim Pepper.
  • Magistrate Judge Sharon Ovington of United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio recently recommended that a motion for summary judgment be granted in favor of FI&C client The Estée Lauder Companies.
  • FI&C has won an award from the Dayton Business Journal as one of the Best Places to Work in Dayton.
  • Charlie Faruki has been nominated for the 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
  • Ron Raether was appointed to the External Advisory Board for the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Wright State University.
  • On February 28, 2007, Marty Foos was a featured speaker at the Depositions A to Z continuing legal education seminar in Cincinnati.
  • FI&C associates Erin Rhinehart, Katie Miltner and Becky Owen served as advisors for the Chaminade-Julienne High School mock trial team, and Mark Sedor served as advisor for the Northmont High School team throughout the 2006-2007 season.

February 2007

  • Paul Horstman and Eric Voigt prevailed on a Motion to Dismiss that they filed on behalf of two aerospace Defendants.
  • Charlie Faruki was recognized by The American Lawyer as one of the Top Commercial Litigation Lawyers in the country.
  • Jeff Cox and Jeff Ireland have accepted invitations to the 2007 Class of Fellows of the Ohio State Bar Foundation.
  • Charlie Faruki was one of the lawyers teaching a continuing legal education program for the Carl D. Kessler Inn of Court in Dayton.
  • Jeff Cox, Marty Foos and Jeff Sharkey have given presentations to local business leaders titled "Ten Things a Business Should Know to Manage Its Litigation Costs and Risks."
  • Jeff Ireland and Marty Foos will be presenters at a February 28, 2007 seminar in Cincinnati on how to conduct a deposition.
  • Jeff Sharkey has been named the 2007 Chairperson of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Volunteerism Committee.
  • Andy Reitz was appointed as an Ambassador to Generation Dayton.
  • At its Annual Meeting, the Board of Trustees of the Tipp City Public Library elected FI&C associate Katie Wahl as Secretary, a position she has held for the past three years.
  • FI&C sponsored a presentation of the H.M.S. Pinafore at the Dayton Opera on January 26, 2007.

January 2007

  • FI&C completed another very successful recruiting year.
  • Jeff Ireland will be conducting three seminars in December.
  • Charlie Faruki was invited to speak to the Corporate Counsel Committee of the Dayton Bar Association.
  • Ron Raether published an article titled "Security Before and After a Data Breach," in the Business Law Today, November/December 2006.
  • Erin Rhinehart recently published an article in The Federal Lawyer, which is the nationally-circulated professional magazine of the Federal Bar Association, and is dedicated to the interests of practitioners of federal law.
  • Eli Kiefaber and Brian Wright wrote an article entitled "A Call for Action: Federal Anti-Pretexting Law Needed," which was published in the October 2006 edition of LexisNexis' Mealey's Privacy Reporter.
  • Ron Raether, Katie Wahl and Brian Wright were presenters at a one-day seminar in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 1, 2006, that was sponsored by the National Business Institute.
