Jeff is Partner In Charge of FI&C's Cincinnati office, splitting his time between Cincinnati and Dayton offices. Jeff has tried cases in both state and federal courts, and has handled numerous arbitrations and mediations before the American Arbitration Association in various jurisdictions. Jeff's practice includes class action defense, privacy and data protection, intellectual property litigation (including patent and inventorship disputes covering a broad array of products and technology involving oral care, beverages, feminine hygiene, pet food and packaging), federal regulatory investigations, products liability, media, appropriations, advertising, competition and other business litigation. Jeff has been involved as a lead defense counsel in several high-profile national data security and information technology class actions addressing claims under various federal statutes.
Jeff is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, and a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, the Ohio State Bar Foundation and the Dayton Bar Foundation. Jeff has been recognized as an "Ohio Super Lawyer (Business Litigation)," a peer-based recognition of the top 5% of Ohio's lawyers, every year of the selection, and continues to be recognized annually as one of the Top Attorneys in Business Litigation in the SuperLawyers Corporate Counsel publication. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, and is a member of the Bar of the State of Ohio, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio. Jeff also has been admitted to practice pro hac vice in numerous state and federal courts throughout the United States.
FI&C's partner in charge of professional development (FIC University) and recruiting, Jeff is active in numerous professional organizations, and serves on the Dayton Bar Association's Federal Practice and Civil Trial Practice Committees. A member of the Dayton Lawyers Club, Jeff is past president of the Carl D. Kessler Inn of Court, and a frequent speaker at numerous CLE seminars, most recently on effective civil trial practice, and practical legal ethics. Jeff is also a member of the American (Litigation, Practice Management and Intellectual Property Law Sections), Federal, Ohio State and Cincinnati Bar Associations and is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Jeff is an officer of the Ohio State Bar Association Media Law Committee and a member of the National Media Law Resource Center, where he is a contributing writer to the MLRC's law newsletter. Jeff is a 1998 graduate of Leadership Dayton, a 2000 Dayton Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award winner, and served four years as an elected member of the City Council for Oakwood, Ohio, from 1996-99.
Jeff is a 1991 graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Dayton Law Review, 1990-91, and Co-Champion of the 1989 Walter Rice Moot Court Competition. He is a 1982 graduate of Miami University (B.A. Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs), and is a current member of the Board of Advisors for Miami's Pre-Law Program. Jeff is the author of two articles: "A Call to Lead -- Educating Ethical, Moral Legal Professionals," 25 U. Day. L. Rev. xv (2000), and "Industrial Property Transactions and Hazardous Waste Cleanup in America: An Analysis of State Innovations," 15 U. Day. L. Rev. 471 (1990).
Prior to commencing his legal career, Jeff worked several years in Washington, D.C., first with Senators Robert Packwood (R-OR) and Richard Lugar (R-IN), and later as Deputy Director of Government Relations for the National Society of Professional Engineers, where he lobbied Congress on public works and infrastructure issues and managed the NSPE Political Action Committee and Legislative Education Fund.
Jeff and his wife, Jenny, also an attorney (inactive), reside in Kettering, Ohio, and have four children. Jeff is a Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School, and is Past President of the Pastoral Council for the Church of the Holy Angels, where he continues to serve on the Parish Advancement Team.
