Attorneys Jeff Ireland, Brian Wright, and Eric Voigt, in a state-law securities action filed by FI&C, successfully defended against a motion to dismiss filed by Defendant.
FI&C argued that Defendants' motion to dismiss raised numerous factual issues and contended that their motion should be converted into a motion for summary judgment. The District Court for the Southern District of Ohio agreed, denying Defendants' motion and ruling that Plaintiff was entitled to discovery.

Charlie Faruki spoke on the subject of Ethics in Litigation Under the New Ohio Rules, at the 2007 Federal Bench Bar Conference in Columbus.
Every two years the federal Judges from the Northern District of Ohio and from the Southern District of Ohio hold a joint Federal Bench Bar Conference in Columbus. This conference was the fourth such conference, and Charlie has spoken at three of the four conferences. He is Chair of the Federal Courts and Practice Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association.

Jeff Ireland has been appointed by the United States District Court in Camden, New Jersey to serve as liaison counsel to defendants in the MDL case involving the recall of pet food: In re Pet Foods Product Liability Litigation, MDL Docket No. 1850 (D.N.J.), Civil Action No. 07-2867 (NLH).
Approximately 120 class actions have been transferred to the District Court in Camden, for pretrial purposes. Jeff is one of four lawyers who will serve as liaison counsel to more than 20 defendants, including pet food manufacturers, suppliers and retailers that made or sold dog and cat food that was recalled in the spring of 2007. Jeff Ireland, Laura Sanom and Brian Wright are defending a major pet food company in many of the cases that have been transferred to New Jersey.

FI&C associates Erin Rhinehart and Katie Miltner were selected to receive the 2008 Ohio State Bar Association Foundation Community Service Award for their work in organizing the 5 for the Kids 5K run/walk race to benefit CARE House.
Every year the OSBA Foundation recognizes one or more attorneys from each district for their community service contributions. Erin and Katie will receive their award at a ceremony this spring.
