The Benchmark Litigation 2018 Guide once again ranked Faruki Ireland Cox Rhinehart & Dusing P.L.L. as one of Ohio's preeminent litigation firms, naming it one of only eleven firms statewide to receive Benchmark's "highly recommended" classification. Stating that Faruki+ "maintains its standing as a solid litigation shop, with a roster of attorneys experienced in a wide range of practice areas" the Benchmark guide includes all five of the firm's named partners -- Charlie Faruki, Jeff Ireland, Jeff Cox, Erin Rhinehart and Ben Dusing -- on its list of the 100 Ohio "state litigation stars."
Charlie Faruki was notified by Marquis Who's Who that he is a recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award.
The work of the Citizens Commemoration Panel, of which Charlie Faruki is a member, is completed. Appointed by Congressman Mike Turner, the task of the panel was to recommend a name for the federal courthouse in Dayton. At a press conference, Rep. Turner announced his acceptance of the panel's recommendation that the courthouse be named after United States District Judge Walter H. Rice.
Jeff Cox was inducted recently as a Fellow of the Foundation of the Federal Bar Association. Of the roughly 20,000 FBA members, there are only 242 FBA Foundation Fellows. Jeff serves on the FBA's National Government Relations Committee and is a board member of the Federal Litigation Section of the FBA. Jeff also is a past president of the Dayton Chapter of the FBA.
Jeff Cox recently accepted an award from the Federal Bar Association at its national convention in Atlanta. Jeff is the Editor of the FBA's Federal Litigation Section newsletter, SideBAR, which was recognized with the FBA's 2017 Outstanding Newsletter Award.
Jeff Cox began his two-year term this fall as President of the Lawyers Club of Dayton. Formed in 1909, the 175-member Lawyers Club gathers bi-monthly to hear from prominent leaders in business, the arts, politics, education, government, healthcare, athletics and defense.
In October, Erin Rhinehart was invited to attend the American Bar Association's Section of Litigation Leadership Conference in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. At the conference, Erin was appointed as one of two Executive Editors of the ABA's Litigation journal. Litigation, a quarterly publication, is the preeminent journal in the field of trial practice. Erin has been a member of the Litigation Editorial Board since March 2017; she previously served on the editorial board for the ABA's TYL magazine for nearly ten years. TYL is the flagship publication of the ABA's Young Lawyers Division.
This month, Zach Heck was named co-chair of the Dayton Bar Association's Editorial Board. For the next two years, Zach is responsible for supervising, managing, and contributing articles to the monthly Bar Briefs publication. Zach frequently contributes articles to Bar Briefs relating to local practitioners and federal practice.
On Friday, October 13, Zach Heck was a featured speaker at the 10th Annual Northern Kentucky University Cybersecurity Symposium. Zach spoke to attendees on the topic of virtual reality technology, and the challenges such emerging technology brings to data governance. Zach also included step-by-step considerations that companies should include in privacy impact assessments when utilizing virtual reality technology.
On Thursday, October 19, Zach Heck was a featured speaker at the Indiana University Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research Summit. Zach spoke to Summit attendees on the topic of biometric technology and its use in cybersecurity applications. Zach spoke about the need for additional administrative, physical, and technical safeguards as an additional check on data collected by biometric devices.
On Thursday, October 26, Zach Heck delivered a presentation to the Dayton Bar Association's Corporate Counsel Committee entitled "Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due: Data Governance Lessons Learned from the Equifax Breach." Zach took attendees through the Equifax breach step-by-step as a case study, and identified the ways in which companies of all sizes can utilize stronger data governance principles to avoid mismanaging a data breach notification campaign.
